What Really Pleases God?

When Jesus was baptised in the river Jordan, it says “heaven was opened, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and lighting on him. And a voice from heaven said, “This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased.” (Matt 3v16-17). I don’t know about you but there is longing in my heart to see the heavens opened over my life! There is a desire to please my Father in heaven and for Him to one day say “well done, good and faithful servant!”. So what pleases God?! Collosians 1v10 says this: live a life worthy of the Lord and may please Him in every way: bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God, being strengthened with all power according to his glorious might so that you may have great endurance and patience, and joyfully giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of the saints in the kingdom of light.

This passage tells us 5 things that please God:

1. Bear fruit in every good work
God wants a fruitful church! Jesus said that His disciples would be known by their fruits. If we want to please God then we need to bear fruit.
The fruit of the Spirit is the character of Jesus. We need to desire to be more like Jesus every day. To have His heart, His love, His presence and His power in our lives. This world desperatly needs to see Jesus, and the Jesus they need to see is the Jesus that lives in us. Do our lives reflect Jesus in all we say and do?

2. grow in the knowledge of God
We need to know more about God through reading His Word. This is the foundation of our lives. However, it’s not just about knowing more about God, but actually knowing Him more. Having that intimacy, that communion and that friendship that comes from His presence. Do we desire to be friends of God? This is what pleases God, this is what He longs for – to meet with His people.

3. Being strengthened with power
The Holy Spirit is the power source of the Trinity! When we get filled with the Spirit we are strenghened with power, the same power that rose Jesus from the dead! God doesn’t want weak, timid, fearful Christians but a church that has power and authority over sickness, circumstances and the devil! It is is vital we are filled and keep getting filled with Gods power daily!

4. Joyfully giving thanks to the Father
Living a lifestyle of praise and worship! God loves worshippers! He inhabits the praises of His people! We have so much to give thanks and praise to God for! God looks for that joyful, passionate, intimate thanks. And when He finds it, thats where He pours out His blessing

5. Inherit the Kingdom
It pleases the Father for us to inherit the Kingdom. Heaven is not just a place we go to when we die, it is a kingdom, that lives inside of us and when it is released, it impacts the world we live in.
The Kingdom of God is where King Jesus reigns. It is a life of abundance, joy, freedom, peace, victory and favour. Those who live in the kingdom reign as kings and priests, they have authority and dominion over circumstances and the powers of darkness. They are a walking revival with a purpose to see Gods kingdom come wherever they are.

As we bear fruit, grow in the knowledge of God, get filled with Gods power, live a life of thanksgiving and live a kingdom life, be sure that it is pleasing to the Father. Get ready for the heavens to be opened over your life and the Holy Spirit to be poured out all over you!

It’s time to arise and shine and be the church God wants us to be!
