The Blessing Of The Lord

Throughout the Bible one constant theme running through it’s pages is the willingness and desire of God to bless!
The first thing God did after creating Adam and Eve was to bless them! The first thing He did after finishing creation was to bless the Sabbath day. The first thing He did after the flood was to bless Noah. The first thing He did after calling Abraham was to bless him. After He gave the law to Israel, He told them that if they obeyed it they would be blessed in everything they did and everything they touched. The book of Pslams begins with the words “Blessed is the man”. The Old Testament closes with the book of Malachi where God says if His people turn back to Him, He will pour out so much blessing they wouldn’t have room enough to contain it! Jesus began His ministry, not with a message of condemnation but by announcing that this was the year of the Lord’s blessing or favour. When Jesus talked about life in the kingdom of God He talked about people who were blessed…”blessed are the hungry and thirsty, blessed are the merciful” etc. The last thing Jesus did before His ascension was to bless His disciples. The Bible closes by describing heaven and saying that all who enter the New Jerusalem will be blessed.

God is a God who loves to bless! It is at the core of His character. Blessings issue from His very being! James 1 says “Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.”

Having the blessing of God on your life makes such a difference. You can have everything you desire materially, but without the blessing of the Lord there will always be something missing. Likewise, even in the midst of trial, you can know the joy and peace that comes from having the blessing of the Lord on your life!

Gods blessing includes provision – “The blessing of the Lord makes one rich and He adds no sorrow to it”
Gods blessing includes favour – “you bless the righteous; you surround them with Your favor as with a shield.”
Gods blessing includes enlargement, increase, protection and healing – “Jabez cried out to the God of Israel, “Oh, that you would bless me and enlarge my territory! Let your hand be with me, and keep me from harm so that I will be free from pain.”
Gods blessing includes our spouses, children and all who enter our homes – “He blesses the home of the righteous.”

Gods blessing is not something we can buy, earn or steal. Gods blessing is found only in Jesus, and living life in His Kingdom and His presence. Jesus is the source of all blessing “from the fulness of His grace we have all recieved one blessing after another”. Blessings flow and gush out of Jesus and whoever comes to Him can drink and recieve.

The greatest blessing of all is to know that our sins are forgiven and that we have been reconciled with God. “Blessed is the man whose sin the Lord will never count against him.” Again, this can only come through Jesus as we call on His name and put our trust in Him.

I want to be blessed by Jesus! I want to be blessed to be a blessing and carry the blessing of the Lord wherever I go. Do you?! Check out the life of Obed Edom – this guy was blessed just by being around the ark (the symbol of Gods presence). Get into Gods presence today and recieve a fresh blessing from the Father of the Heavenly Lights and then go and being a blessing wherever you go by preaching the gospel, healing the sick and showing the love of God to every man, woman and child.
