My Lover

I was stirred once again the other day reading the description of the lover in Song of Songs 5v10-16. These verses so wonderfully picture the lover of my soul – Jesus!

“My lover is radiant!” – The word “radiant” means to “emit rays of light”. That’s my Jesus, He is the light of the world! He shines brighter than the brighest sun, He is a consuming fire that burns in all His brilliance! The light of Jesus shines even in the darkest of circumstances. No matter how dark your world is at this moment in time, know that there is a light that shines, and His name is Jesus! That light speaks of the glory, splendour and majesty of His presence, that through the shedding of His blood you can encounter every day!

“Outstanding among 10,000”. Friends, no one can compare to Jesus! You can have 10,000 or 10,000,000 – still no one would compare to Jesus! He stands alone! When we get to heaven, there will be sights and sounds beyond comparison – streets paved with gold, mansions, the river of life, cherubim, seruphim, arch angels – and yet none of it can compare to the Son! All eyes will be on Him! He alone is worthy of praise, worship and adoration! Gaze upon Jesus today – “and the things of this world will grow strangely dim in the light of His glory and grace”

“His head is purest gold”. Gold is fitting for a king to wear. Praise God, that Jesus is not just my lover He is also my king! And not just a king – but King of kings and Lord of lords! Know today that Jesus reigns! That Jesus is over all! “His eyes are like blazing fire, and on His head are many crowns. He has a name written on Him that no one knows but He himself. He is dressed in a robe dipped in blood, and His name is the Word of God.” (Rev 19) He is a conquering King who has triumphed over sickness, poverty, death and all the powers of hell! Glory!

“his eyes are like doves by the water streams”. I have written before that a dove can only see one thing at a time. What is Jesus looking at at this moment? You! He lives to make intercession on your behalf. He has eyes only for His bride. He knows you, even the number of hairs on your head. He loves you with a passion and His heart beats with compassion and tenderness towards you.

“eyes mounted with jewells”. If you could gaze into the eyes of Jesus this day, you would see that His eyes sparkle! They reveal such beauty, such grace, such majesty, such glory!

“his lips are lillies dripping with myhr”. The lilly in the Bible speaks of glory and splendour. That’s what Jesus’s voice is like. It’s a voice that spoke creation into being, the voice that calmed the storm, the voice that rose Lazarus from the dead, the voice that caused all of hell to shudder as it declared “it is finished” And yet that voice can be so tender, so gentle, so precious and so beautiful. Jesus longs to speak directly into your heart this day. Are you listening?

“His arms are rods of gold set with crysolite”. This to me speaks of His power and authority! The hand of Jesus is not too short to save! It contains all the power and authority of heaven! Cry out to Jesus in your hour of need and His mighty hand will reach down and heal, deliver and restore!

“His mouth is sweetness itself”. One of the words for worship in the Bible can be translated “kiss”. When we worship we kiss heaven, we kiss the lips of Jesus. Friends, nothing is sweeter, nothing is more wonderful! To be in His presence is to know fulness of joy and find everything we need.

“He is all together lovely” Everything about Jesus is lovely, everything about Him is beautiful, is perfect, is wonderful! Sometimes I’m lost for words to say and all I can say is “Jesus, You are so beautiful”.

“This is my lover” Can you say that this day?! This is my lover – Jesus! The One who shed His blood on the cross, the One who redeemed the world, the One who rose again, the One who reigns at the right hand of the Father, the One who gave the Holy Spirit, the One who is coming again with thousands upon thousands of angels – this is my lover – Jesus!

“This is my friend”. How awesome that we can be called the friends of God! Hallelujah! Not servants, but friends! And it’s all because of Jesus! The beautiful One, the fairest of the fair! How awesome is He!

Hope this was a blessing and inspires you to burn for Him and be captivated by the One who loves you more than life itself!
