God’s Honey

“The LORD said, I have indeed seen the misery of my people in Egypt. I have heard them crying out because of their slave drivers, and I am concerned about their suffering. So I have come down to rescue them from the hand of the Egyptians and to bring them up out of that land into a good and spacious land, a land flowing with milk and honey” (Ex 3v7-8)

When God brought His people out of Egypt, His intention was for them to live in Cannan, a land flowing with milk and honey. Honey is something sweet, rich and tasty. In the Old Testament it was seen as a sign of Gods blessing, His abundance and His sweetnes. I believe it is a wonderful picture of what the Christian has in Jesus!

God has a place for us to live. Cannan is not a picture of heaven (there are no giants or walled cities there), instead Cannan is a picture of life in the Spirit, the resurrection life of Jesus! That life is a life flowing with milk and honey! The word flow means to “gush out”. Friends, there are blessings gushing out of Jesus! He doesn’t just give us a trickle or a drop, but gushing out of Christ is blessing and sweetness, flowing freely from His pierced side and available to all! God has not called us to live in slavery but a spacious land of freedom. He has not called us to die in a wilderness but live in a good land, a land of plenty!

God provided Manna for the Israelites to eat. This manna tasted like honey (Ex 16v31). It was sweet to their lips. Jesus is our manna that came from heaven. Friends no one is sweeter than Jesus. He is the rose of Sharon, the lilly of the vally, the bright morning star and the fairest of the fair! He is so wonderful. When you eat of Jesus, it is sweet like honey. Oh to taste and see that the Lord is good! His voice is sweet, His name is sweet. Everything about Jesus is sweet and wonderful! Go to Him and eat and drink this day!

“With honey from the rock I would satisfy you” (Psalm 81)

Nothing satisfies like Jesus! He is our rock, and from Him flows the honey of His presence. Nothing can satisfy like being in His presence. Job 20 talks about a river flowing with honey and cream. We can get immersed in the honey river today and get soaked in the sweet presence of Jesus! It’s rich, it’s abundant, it refreshes and restores. Honey is sticky! When you get into the glory, it rubs off on you, it effects you and changes you.

“How sweet are your words to my taste, sweeter than honey to my mouth!” (Pslm 119v103)

When a student of the Torah would memorise a passage of scripture, His rabbi would dip his finger in honey and touch his lips with it. It was a reminder that Gods word was sweet and precious. When we read Gods word by the light of the Spirit, God speaks to us. He gives us guidance, He shows us revelation and He reveals Jesus in every page. Nothing is sweeter than Gods word. When it gets in your bones its powerful! Every page is full of blessings, full of promises, all available in Jesus, and all sweeter than honey!

“But Jonathan had not heard that his father had bound the people with the oath, so he reached out the end of the staff that was in his hand and dipped it into the honeycomb. He raised his hand to his mouth, and his eyes brightened.” (1 Sam 14)

Friends, take a moment today to “dip your staff into the honeycomb” – dip your life into the presence of Jesus – into His word and into the river of His Spirit. I can guarantee you will find nothing sweeter, nothing more satisfied. As you do, you will be filled with His light, and will reflect Jesus and His sweet blessings wherever you go.
