God’s Greatness

One thing that Christians believe above all else is that God is a great God! The Bible delcares “Great is the Lord and most worthy of praise!”

Micah 5v4 makes this incredible prophesy about the greatness of God – “His greatness will reach to the ends of the earth”
How?! How will this word be fulfilled? How will God’s greatness spread so that it covers the whole globe?
I believe the answer to this, is also the key to understanding the purpose of our salvation!

In the book of Genesis, God took one man, Abraham and made him great. He declared “I will make you into a great nation, all people’s on earth shall be blessed through you.” The greatness of Abraham would spread throughout the world as God made his seed like the dust of the earth and the stars in the sky.
This prophecy did not find it’s fulfillment in Abraham however. It found it’s fulfilment in Jesus! The book of Galations says “The promises were spoken to Abraham and to his seed, meaning one person, who is Christ”
Just like God took Abraham and made him many, through his death on the cross, Jesus has now become many! The global church is now like the dust of the earth and the stars in the sky, millions of little-Christs covering the face of the planet. That is how God’s greatness will spread to the ends of the earth! Through the church!

God wants there to be a Jesus in every school, every work place, every college, every town, every city and every nation. And through these “Christians”, anoinited Ones, showing His greatness wherever they go, His greatness will spread till the whole earth will be covered with the knowledge of the glory of the Lord as the waters cover the sea.

David, speaking in 2 Samuel 2v36 says of God, “You stoop down to make me great”. This is the message of the gospel! 2000 years ago, Jesus left heaven, humbled Himself and became nothing. He died a cruel death on a cross. He stooped so low He descended into hell itself. But through that sacrifice, He has made us great! Now we are children of God! Joint-heirs with Christ Jesus! Filled us with the fulness of Himself and seated us in heavenly places! Oh the wonder of the gospel! God has filled us with His greatness!

Proverbs 15v6 says “The house of the righteouss contains great treasure”. Because of Jesus, we are now righteous before God, and we contain a treasure inside these earthen vessells. The wonder of the gospel is that God has filled us with His greatness! The same power that Jesus had, is now at work in us and through us. As Jesus was the manifestation of the greatness of God 2000 years ago, the church is the manifestation of the greatness of God today! As we spread the message of the gospel in the power of the Holy Spirit, God’s greatness is demonstrated to the world. And, as we take this message to the four corners of the globe, God’s greatness will reach to the ends of the earth.

What are we going to do with the greatness God has put within us? 2 Samuel 22v51 says “He gives his king great victories” As kings and priests, filled with the greatness of God, we should be winning great victories over the enemy. Did not Jesus say “Greater works than these shall you do”. The greatest victory of all, is when a man or woman gives their life to Jesus and is brought out of darkness and into light. If every Christian realised that there purpose in life was to show forth Gods greatness through winning the lost, we could see the greatest harvest the world has ever seen.

Finally it says in 2 Samuel 5v10 “David went on, and grew great, and the Lord God of hosts was with him”. David said in Psalm 71 “you shall increase my greatness”
Let’s keep growing in the greatness of God. Jesus is the greatness of God, so to increase in greatness means to be more like Jesus. Let’s surrender our whole lives to Jesus today, allow God to fill us with more and more of His greatness, and then let’s go to the nations of the world and show forth that greatness as we preach the greatest message of all – the gospel of Jesus Christ! His greatness will reach the ends of the earth!

For His glory!
